Music is so important in my life. It has literally been a soundtrack on my journey. My first exposure to music that I can remember is in the sixties, my Mom playing Beatles records. A few years later, Deep Purple but at school, I was exposed to Classical music and won class contests that allowed me to compete in district competitions identifying bits of composers. Later on while skateboarding I was a punk rocker turned New Wave rider.
My friends were in bands, they still are. My son plays a Flying V in his band. I listened to music while snow surfing, hang gliding, flying a ultralight, on a long road trip. I’ve written about trips where music imprinted memories.
I’ve timed the releases of favorite music to listen to while on big trips. Listening to songs that I knew they were going to be hits while I was seeing new sights. The Gorillaz while I was in Hawaii, Frank Ocean while I was in Japan.
