Tempe Camera

Tempe Camera is the spot for serious photographers or it could be for buying your first camera. They are full featured shop able to outfit a traveling professional photographer with studio equipment or rent an amateur an expensive lens to use for a day. In short, this photography business has it all.

I have purchased a few things for my DSLR and have had a couple of rolls developed and scanned. They have a small assortment of manual focus Nikon AIS lens and accessories which I am centric to but they also cover nearly all brands. This is truly a professionals shop.

The repair department helped put my FE2 back into service as I sourced it from eBay and it was broken. They have also serviced a couple of manual focus lens for me and their prices are more than competitive, their repair prices are excellent. My F3 needed a CLA (cleaning lubrication and adjustment) but were unable to support this camera. That was disappointing however not a reflection on their service. 40 year old electronics in cameras requires a specialized business that has the volume to support so that problem was solved by International Camera Technicians. The repair technician at Tempe Camera did do a on the spot check out of my F3 and handed it back after 15 minutes. “Your camera checks out Adam, no charge.” They actually did the same thing for my DSLR as well. I would have paid to have this done but the gentleman in the repair shop knew it didn’t need it. He just took the camera, did an operation check and plugged it in checking the firmware. Again, they handed my camera back, “ Nice camera, the firmware is up to date. No need for service, no charge.”

Later, they did a sensor cleaning for me and were able to get my camera back early. They quoted a week, I called after a couple of days and that evening I was at my son’s gig taking pictures.

I really enjoy a great experience whether it is a stop in to just look around or like I did when I wanted to check out a Nikkor 15mm f3.5 AIS on my D780.
“Can I try that one out?”

They actually have two of this lens, only 9,000 were made. They pulled it out of the display cabinet and I mounted it on my camera and I took a couple of shots. The below picture is from that day. Subsequently, I found this lens at a really good price on eBay and purchased it. I might have missed the opportunity if Tempe Camera didn’t allow me the experience but they did and now I’m farther down the road.

I am a native of Phoenix, born here in 1961. In 1977 or there about, my father gave me my first real camera and an account at a local lab for developing. The three stores I frequent here have been in business for longer than I’ve been a photographer. I’ve actually utilized all three stores infrequently over the years only to frequent them now as my photography has taken over as my primary passion in my free time.

How long has Tempe Camera been in business?

Tempe Camera has been in business since
1972, making it a long-standing fixture in the Tempe and Phoenix, Arizona photographic communities. The company was founded by Joe Wojcich.
I really appreciate the professionals there. Without a doubt, this is the premier photography shop in the Phoenix metropolitan area. Since 1972, Tempe Camera has been supporting the community of photographers. 1972 must have been a great year for photography in Phoenix. That’s the same year Foto Forum opened its doors.
