I’ve always wanted to tour our capital building complex. I visited as a child in grade school, about sixty years ago. I remember it but it was a distant memory. But as an adult, a voting, tax paying, law abiding citizen who believes in our constitution and in democracy, I really appreciate the ability to tour the grounds. It’s my building as a citizen of Arizona and I’m proud of it. I hope my photographs do it justice.
On this June 18th day, the temp was 103 degrees, it hot, bright and miserable outside but so nice and cool to tour the complex. In the old chamber, I sat at the Navajo county desk and imagined the Arizona government in session. Gov. Hunt at the head, he was represented by a wax figure, I sat there alone, in silence, contemplating out state’s legislature…
Truly an amazing experience for a Thursday afternoon in early summer.
Postscript: I really love our capitol building complex. It truly our complex, the people of Arizona. It is beautiful and filled with history. There are pride flags hanging from the roof right now and although I’m not gay (so what if I was) I’m so proud that we are so progressive that they can hang there.
