My father invited our family to join him on the Big Island of Hawaii and we happily accepted. I knew there were trout on Kauai and I cooked up a plan to catch them. I sent my wife and son on to the Big Island while I gave myself two days to find and catch the Rainbow Trout of Waimea Canyon.
At the time, I was working with Tenkara USA and making Tenkara Fisher to increase the awareness of the a Japanese style of fly fishing. I stayed at a hostel on the beach and drove up into the area, hiked and found the streams and caught fish. I published a couple of stories on that trip and they can be found here.
