This page will be a placeholder for the destination. I didn’t make it to the area I wanted to see. There wasn’t much in the way of a trail description and it ended up being a scramble up a boulder strewn wash. On Google maps, it appeared to be somewhat flat. My lesson, look at a topographical map or Gaia mapping FIRST in order to estimate the elevation and terrain steepness. I’m only slightly disappointed in myself though as this turned out to be a great adventure with a couple of friends instead of a “hiker rescued in the mountains.”
We could not drive close, we had to park a half mile away because of park construction improvements. I just didn’t do the homework and ended up in a dead end in a canyon. We turned around about one hundred yards from the destination that we could not see. On the way down we did see an indigenous hiker that verified the (off) trail, better intel for next time. At least on the way there was rock art to be found and we took some photographs.
I’ll be back soon, or in the fall or winter but for now, here is the details from the first attempt.

The trail is not obvious, it is to the right and we ended up in the boulder strewn wash to the left. |
Initial intel for this attempt was found at this site and subsequent imbedded Google Maps destination
