Film and Digital Photographs, a Comparison

I do not have mastery over the highly configurable Nikon D780 so it isn't an exact apple to apple comparison, but it does show the difference between the two formats through my lens at this time.

I do not post edit my photographs. They go up on the site as they are taken from the digital scan and camera. I'm not against postproduction, it's just over the years, I continue to see an increase in pictures that are screwed up by people that think they can make them better with their computer programs.
I don't do it. Not my style. My photography is for me, it's almost utilitarian to what I want to end up with...

What I want to illustrate here is the difference between film and digital photography and my love for Fuji Velvia film. I think it has brilliant color rendering; it's my favorite film by far.

This single photograph above is from a roll of 35mm Fuji Velvia 50 film, with a Nikon F3, Nikkor 35mm f1.4.

Compare it to the below image of the same petroglyph with the Nikon D780 and the Nikon D780, AF-S Nikkor 28-85mm G ED VR FX zoomed to 35mm.

Nikkor 15mm f3.5 AIS

Rochester Petroglyph Panel, Emery, Utah D780 with 15mm f3.5 AIS

My first image with a store DEMO Nikkor 15mm f3.5 AIS

First photo through my copy…

Finally! I got my copy. I have been lusting over this lens for a very long time but now it’s here and it is as cool as I thought. I can’t wait to use it for video. It’s the first lens that I was able to make pictures exactly like I want. It’s hard for me to put in words but it seems like when I view through the lens, that’s how I see. Anyway, this is not a review, it’s about how happy I am to have it in my bag and pull it out to use.

Ugh, I sold it due to the big blue blobs. It was fun to own yet like everyone said, it has serious issues with ghosts.

A haunted lens for sure.
