Tempe is just a 10 min drive from my home in the Arcadia neighborhood of Phoenix. It’s where ASU is, Tempe Camera and Tempe Butte or as it is called by some, Hayden’s Butte. There is an old Hohokom ruin on Tempe Butte and petroglyphs, the reason why I was there taking pictures with my Nikon camera and a 300mm lens. The petroglyphs are literally just a few yards off heavily trafficked hiking trails. Signage all over saying stay on trails. So I let my lens hop the fences.
There just aren’t very many photographs online of the rock art of Tempe Butte. I’ve seen and read shitty comments of, “no quality rock art” by collectors of petroglyph pictures and sites. Their bad photography and poor attitude have lead me to stop and realize, they don’t appreciate the longevity. There are hundreds of them and there is also the beauty of the city. Tempe is a great place to visit for an ASU football game, swimming meets, partying, restaurants, it’s an interesting place with an awesome history both old and new.
